I document my experience of being alive and traveling the world.
I'm passionate about exploring new places, cultures, and adventures. You will find videos about the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route across Spain that I walked for 38 days - twice. You will also see surf road trips in vintage campers, where I chase the waves and enjoy the freedom of living on the road.
I have digitized lots of Super 8 film footage & photos that my grandparents have shot traveling the world.
I will also upload other things that strike my fancy, such as music, art, and philosophy. So if you are curious about the world and want to join me on my journey of discovery, please subscribe to my channel and hit the bell icon to get notified of new videos. Thank you for watching and I hope to see you soon! 😊

Camino Epilogue & Recap: Camino Diaries #37
The Camino de Santiago isn't just a long walk - it's a mirror that reflects your true self. In this video, I take you on my journey from struggle to serenity, where illness and injury became unexpected gifts, resetting my path in ways I never imagined.
From the initial challenges to the effortless flow, from the pain to the unexpected joys, the Camino dispensed both in equal measure.
As I approached the lighthouse at Finisterre, I found myself in a whirlwind of emotions. The Camino had challenged me beyond my expectations, stripping away my defenses and forcing me to confront my inner self. Discover how this pilgrimage became a profound encounter with the person I am beneath the surface, and why the Camino is so much more than just a walk.
Join me at the edge of the world in Finisterre as I reflect on this extraordinary adventure that forced me to ask the right questions, rather than seek easy answers.
Discover why, in the end, the Camino is not just about the people you meet, but about meeting yourself. #camino #caminodesantiago #philosophy

Friendship, Santiago: Camino Diaries #36
Переглядів 88414 днів тому
It’s the last bit to Santiago de Compostela, and it proves to be an intense battle: my fellow pilgrim’s ankle is in bad shape, but taking a car for the last 20 kilometers after a walk this long is not an option. And so Roger & I take turns carrying her backpack, which is much easier than it sounds; walking in pain, however, isn’t. She’s a trooper, and somehow made it to the Praza de Obradoiro. ...
The Profane Pilgrimage: Camino Diaries #35
Переглядів 74514 днів тому
some thoughts on the form ofa rough essay on a topic that is somewhat controversial: the ‘pilgrimage tourists’. Many can’t walk the entire Camino, and it’s perfectly fine to do the shorter one from Sarria. But buses disgorging throngs of tourists going on a stroll, collecting pilgrim stamps, only to later be able to say: “I walked the Camino”? I’m not so sure… but listen to my thoughts, agree o...
The Complimentary Path: Camino Diaries #34
Переглядів 35914 днів тому
The crowds were unavoidable today, but one measure to take is to consistently pick the Complimentary path instead of the regular one. Crowds: gone. And it’s more beautiful and rural, too. So what if it’s a bit longer? Getting awfully close to Santiago now, the Camino is winding down… So come walk along with me… if you like this kind of thing, subscribe to this channel, and maybe even my newslet...
Obstacles Are The Path: Camino Diaries #33
Переглядів 38021 день тому
Another ridiculously beautiful morning on the Camino Frances, and the off-stage Camino completely avoids the crowds after Sarria. Unexpected, and a delight! I received a totem from a nice Dutch lady, and it said investing things about obstacles & the path, which I go into in my narration. But listen for yourself… So come walk along with me… if you like this kind of thing, subscribe to this chan...
The Magic Hour of Walking: Camino Diaries #32
Переглядів 50121 день тому
The trick to avoid the crowds after Sarria is to avoid Sarria. Not avoid it altogether, but don’t sleep there. To just walk through, and leave it behind you in the afternoon: we saw literally zero of the crowds. Nothing. So what we expected to be a middling walk, turned into something quite beautiful. Found a good, modern albergue in Ferreiros after a longish walk, the end of a fine day. I kept...
Silence & Entropy: Camino Diaries #31
Переглядів 46121 день тому
Have you truly experienced silence? Not the mere absence of noise, but a living, breathing presence that washes over the soul? Then you must journey to the landscapes of Galicia. As we wander the ancient Camino de Santiago, every sense is awakened by nature's eternal rhythms - the flutter of wings, the distant tinkle of cowbells, the earthy fragrance of damp soil. Stone villages rise organicall...
Cow Man: Camino Diaries #30
Переглядів 51021 день тому
O Cebreiro beckons, and to get there, we need to climb a mountain. It’s steep, it’s hot, and it’s beautiful. A bagpiper greets us upon arrival in celtic Galicia, and the way down will be just as good - only rather hard, because I’m carrying two backpacks now. This video is in the sign of the cow. There are cows everywhere, and it’s a pleasure encountering these cute beasts (withbig horns). Have...
Follow Rivers: Camino Diaries #29
Переглядів 41921 день тому
Following rivers will always take you somewhere interesting, and that’s no different on the Camino de Santiago. We cross a river that gets smaller the higher we ascend, and it’s a fascinating aspect of nature to witness. But before we get to the source, we go for a swim, at the beautiful Albergue Casa Cantadora. Before that, I’m enjoying a beautiful morning walk, and I talk about what makes ear...
Free-Float Free Agent: Camino de Santiago Diaries #28

The Camino never fails to surprise: After the lows, these highs are out of this world. Yesterday's stay in the tiny mountain village of Acebo was an unforgettable experience. The hosts were absolute gems, and their impromptu street concert after a delicious home-cooked meal was pure magic. As I descended the mountain, the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful. Ponferrada's historic old town with...

Reflections in a rock: Walking up to the Iron Cross / Cruz de Ferro, I’m thinking about what it means to be carrying the rock over large distances in the first place. It’s just a rock - how could it possibly have meaning? Does it even? Or is it just a rock? Also, music seems to follow me everywhere these days, and I love it. Catalan musicians were ripping it up in various locations I also happe...

Into The Heart of Darkness: Camino Diaries #24

I decided to take to the road again, wobbly-legged and a little fragile, but I needed to try. I needed to break out of the disease-recovery-relapse loop. After enjoying my first breakfast in a while, I took the sunny way out of Léon, while at the same time thinking about ‘The Heart of Darkness’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’, and how that ancient narrative of the ‘Odyssey’ is still relevant today (prepos...

The slow health progress I had made was rendered moot overnight. It was an ordeal of a night, my body really trying to get rid of something with all its might. It calmed down in the morning, but I felt like a freight train ran over me for most of the day. And I had so looked forward to participating in Léon’s lively evenings! But all I could do was look at food, not eat it. A great conversation...

Gerrit, thank you for this great Camino reportage. Good Camino stories on YT are truly hard to find. You presented us with not only with great images, the pretty just as the gritty, and you took us along and shared your inner thoughts. That’s not an easy thing to do. And you edited your videos there and then on the way … just alone the multitasking of filming and talking coherently while walking or even when being sick. Chapeau 🎉. I mean it. After three Caminos now it seems you found what you might have been looking for, am I right? I hope you will still consider yet another Camino. … wherever. Maybe just for fun. And if you do, it would be great if you let us participate in your adventures. Thanks again. Buen Camino, peregrino 😊
melancholia of the end. that all was fantastic your walk, fantastic, I´ll miss your voice, honestly!
😅 thank you! 😢 there will be more…
Thanks for sharing your journey Gerrit. I really enjoyed watching and listening to your thoughts! What an adventure 😊.
Glad you enjoyed it! yes, quelle aventure….
I have absolutely loved watching your journey. Thank you so much for all your time and dedication. It has really meant a lot to me during a very personal time. I felt this could have been me. Everything resonated. I left Finisterre on the 10th, dropping down in the particular energy of that place. Lovely that you ended there. Who will you meet? You. Exactly, evolving you.
Thank you so much, Laura ☀️ I’m glad to hear my little videos have had that effect on you… and I agree, Finisterre is magical. What a way to end the walk!
"The Camino is you". I fully agree and concur. I am me.
A complete video with knowledge and energy 😊
Glad you liked it ☀️
A lot of what you say here resonates with me, thanks for making these videos. Really high quality thoughts and video work.
thank you! 😊
I was there exactly a month ago. I miss it so much! If you are still there, take the alternative path to the lighthouse (western side of the peninsula) - it's absolutely stunning.
Thanks for the tips! i’ll use them next time…
A fantastic cumulative narrative of your Camino. A bringing together of all the emotions, pain and wonderment of what one is capable of. Opening up new inner pathways to be explored and a deepening of the senses and oneness of life that so many never have the opportunity or even the will to discover. Buen Cowmino
thank you, Stephi, for following along all these months - and for your great observations and comments.... and yes, it's a Cowmino, after all! :) stay tuned...
Your videos give me some wonderful hours where I feel like I'm on a journey with you. I will probably never have the opportunity to do this myself, and then this is a very good substitute. This video is so full of great pictures, and I especially appreciate that you include the industrial areas as well - they are part of the big picture. Thank you for sharing all this with all of us!
I’m glad you were able to walk vicariously through the videos! I’m glad they resonated with you. if you’d like to see an even more immediate series, check out the daily video diaries i’ve just published: ua-cam.com/video/Vzs5nzXoAtI/v-deo.html

@mortenfoss1303 😜 cool, enjoy!
I can't wait for you to post the whole video of this third camino . I know each one has been different, but which one would be best for you? I imagine the first one because of everything you experienced, people, climate, etc.
‘best’ is impossible.. but this third one was extremely intense. i’ll compile the One Long Movie of it soon!

I just recognized one of my camino friend. Anais from France! Some people you meet in the Camino are to be treasured forever.
oh yes, Anaïs, from Brittany, France! The people you meet are often so special.
Solvitur ambulando. It is solved by walking. St. Augustine
that’s a great one, thanks….
I wonder what you will do next……..
good question…. 👀 not walking is not the solution, that’s for sure!
I have walked five caminos, and met true pilgrims walking from Sarria, and some long distance walkers all the way from SJPDP. It’s all about getting to a sacred place and reflecting on your own personal way. It’s about the destination.
Brilliant monologue Siebert. I started May 3 but stayed at Orisson so was similar pace. LOVE your observations, they are helping me return to Canada... which is hard to find my new way.
thanks Jim! yes getting back takes some…. adjusting… 😬
I tried to replay your synopsis of Kierkegard’s observations on Busyness / my middle name - do you recall which episode that was in? His actual quote (googled) wasn’t as good as your paraphrasing !!😆
thanks a lot! That one is part of my ‘Camino Meditations’ - here’s the link: The Silliness of Busyness: Camino Meditations ua-cam.com/video/1tVZRVTyFUE/v-deo.html
Rosy reflection. Those of us who have to fly more than 30 hours just to get to Europe have different challenges - before we even reach the start line.
i salute that kind of commitment
What were the dates you walked each time?
i started in early May each time
thanks. It’s the timeframe I’m planning for 2025.
I love your videos! Please post a link to the type of rain pants you’re using. Mine definitely don’t double as regular pants. Thanks!
😅 thanks! mine are actually Helly Hansen sailing pants 😂
Choosing the path of violence is not inevirtable, it's a choice and when choosing the path of violence you live a lie ....but you can choose Peace, Love & Compassion. Eco over ego always and beyond (o:
yeah violence, no bueno 😅
You should think about doing talks on the subject of the Camino in order to reach further (o:

Thank you for the wonderful video and your commentary. My wife and I finished the Camino Francis on May 31st and I experienced all of the same feelings and thoughts you so eloquently voiced in this video upon reaching Sarria. We are fortunate that we had the ability and resources to walk the entire Francis but also feel that the last 100km is not reflective of the joy, pain and reflection of the much longer pilgrimage. While we recognize walking the entire journey is not possible for everyone, I appreciate your important distinction between the blind couple and the tourist element. We tried to avoid the crowds as much as possible by also going off stage which worked out reasonably well for us. The Camino is such a unique and cherished experience there is great risk to diluting this wonderful journey of the body mind and soul to a simplistic tourist event with throngs of buses and stamp gathering masses. Thank you again for appropriately trying to articulate this very sensitive topic!
…it’s (for some odd reason) a sensitive topic - i’m glad i hit a nerve! your feedback is much appreciated.
what a great achievement… I had just yesterday a guy in my car with the same shoes! 😇😎
… thanks for picking me up in your Plaid 🚀😅😝🤩
Thank you for sharing your Camino. I started my Camino in mid-March 2024 in SJPP and arrived in Santiago toward the end of April. I've now been home for almost 2 months, and I think about it every day, several times a day. I'm still processing the experience, and may process it for a long time to come. The memories came flooding back watching this video. The same paths, the same cafes and bars and oases, and seemingly some of the same people serving cafe con leche. I don't know if I have another Camino in me, but I do know that I will come back to your videos again. All the best and Buen Camino!
hi there, thanks! if the camino keeps working inside of you, the way you describe it, I promise you have another one in you 🤩 because that’s how it starts. The processing takes the better part of a year, and then you need to go on your next one 🤪 I just got back from number three and it is just amazing as it was - or maybe even more so. I did daily video uploads, like a diary - check it out if you’re interested. buen camino! ☀️ ua-cam.com/video/Vzs5nzXoAtI/v-deo.html
I have binge-watched a fair few camino dairies over the past couple of years and am grateful to those of you that are willing to spend time on/ put the effort into making them. I won't be able to do the walk myself for a long time to come, so thank you. The Alaskan Pilgrim and yours are my favorits on the French Way, but haven't found a really good series for del Norte/via Primotivo yet, which is the one I want to do first. Peace, love, compassion/vegan (o: and happy travels from Denmark.
this is how it started for me - watching camino videos and walking vicariously. You would love it once you do it! I just came back from my third camino, and daily video upload directly from the road so to say. If you’re interested, here you go: ua-cam.com/video/Vzs5nzXoAtI/v-deo.html
@@storiestellr Thanks! I always go to peoples main page and start from there, so your latest walk comes later (o: No doubt I will love it....I'm already walking and have done for years and have many years of walking still. I have long ago left the facination of group dynamics behind me and will, when I one day set out on my last 850km towards Santiago not rush it, but will take whatever time needed along the way, leaving the coast to go inland to visit places and out again.....later ditto on the French Way (o:
Didn't like the background music, makes it harder to hear (trust that what you're saying is interesting enough (less is more🤔😄)) Was very good that you shared your experiences with the things you packed!
thanks for the feedback, you have a point with the music
Das war noch vor der Islamisierung. Leider sind diese Zeiten vorbei.
So quiet, I've never seen the last 100kms so peacful. Some stunningly beautiful shots in this video as always
yes, so so lucky (or cunning?) 😃
Another nice looking albergue to finish the stage off with. Didn’t seem too busy either, which is a rare sight after Sarria

As someone who has lost 90% of their hearing of my right ear, noise pollution is such a huge impact on our lives we don't even realize until it is too late. An odd joy I had when the lockdown of Covid was in full effect here in Canada, was my daily 6km walk to work when there were almost no cars on the roads, no large trucks, or busses. Just a few of us walking or on bikes, it was in those moments I realized how much we as a society have lost due to our constant background noise levels. My loss of hearing has only amplified my need for quiet and how much I appreciate the moments of quiet when hiking in nature. Take the time to appreciate the quiet moments and really listen to what you can hear when the noise of civilization is silenced for a short while.
Camino portraits - nice.
Perfect. Love the captured moments and the authentic background noises.
Thank you very much!
Being the eyes for those who will never see the Camino , recording moments for yourself for later when you’re unable to do it are gifts to others and a gift to your future self.
thank you! that a great way to look at it 😀🌟
Congratulations on getting there! It’s always tinged with mixed feelings. It was good of you and Roger to help your friend with her backpack so she could arrive together with you. And: so many happy pilgrims in that square. Lovely. Thank you.
yes, what a day! and as much as Santiago is a bit of an anti-climax, this was quite a thing…

Congratulations and thank you for taking us along on your journey so far!

Beautiful display of the bonds that bind us together sharing the common goal. Your subject matter is controversial only because people have mistaken their opinions with "being right". Opinions are neither right or wrong, they are simply a point of view. This particular camino, the Frances, is an "all for one...one for all" camino. Everyone's experience of it matters to them, as it should. Great video Gerrit, you are a brave man indeed ;).
The river at the end looks so inviting. Nothing beats soaking in a cool stream/river after a long hike on Camino...well, maybe the addition of a cold beer on the river bank would 😂
What an amazing multi emotional experience. I am sure your joy of completing was tinged with a sadness that the adventure is over. I am reminded that; you enter the plaza a pilgrim and leave as a tourist. Last year when I entered the Plaza I was slightly repulsed by the crowds of tourists and the “bucket listers”. I guess I am a bit of a Camino snob. A great vlog, some profound moments and thoughtful reflections. That walk and your VO into Burgos has stuck with me. Buen Camino and thank you.
I hadn’t heard that one with the pilgrim / tourist - now I can never un-hear it 😊 thank you for watching so intently, and your many insightful comments!
